Te Ata, Our story
Te Ata first opened it's doors in August of 1998 and then officially opened to the public in October, at it's original location on Hickory Ave, Henderson. Following several years of meetings and consultation with Waitemata District Health Board and a range of prospective stakeholders who held the vision of a consumer run service.

Te Ata caters for people from West Auckland in the district of Waitemata and has established a large member base, it has earned itself an excellent reputation with members, in the community and with local and related services.
In 2008, Te Ata moved to new premises in Lincoln Rd. While these premisis did have a fantastic outdoor area, including a vegetable garden, the indoor space became cramped as our attendance numbers grew. Due to this growth, Te Ata eventually moved on to it's current residence on a large premise in Keeling Rd, Henderson, and has remained there since March 2011.
The current building is a converted warehouse. Has large, light open spaces, two kitchens, three toilets and two offices. There is a large space upstairs for the art studio, which, like the downstairs space, is light and airy. The larger space allows both the pool table and the table tennis table to be actively used and there is now an area where people can play board games and work on jigsaw puzzles. There is a good sized outdoor area, 3 carparks and plenty of street parking.

The centre provides a range of daily programmes sought by the members who are encouraged to develop and take ownership of projects, art work and what they would like to achieve collectively at the centre. Te Ata provides a warm welcoming environment that offers companiship and informal peer support.
Te Ata is looking forward to many more years, continuing to support people of our community in their mental health journey, management and recovery.
